Summer Reviewed In 4 Beats

Family came over to visit last weekend
For football with friends and a play downtown.
Our summer is over but we're still out in force
Enjoying the weather before Fall changes course.

You may ask what events we attended this summer?
Well here is my list of those most remembered.
While silent on golf through high scores I carded
And not listing projects neither finished nor started.

After Kate's wedding we started vacations
With camping at Crystal Lake camp Up North,
During thunder and lightning during nights in our tent,
Under coffee house roofs where more time was spent.

We hosted our neighborhood party one weekend
And another made the invite to say bring libations.
They stood in garage near the food and the drink
Till the three-hour clock sent them all home in sync.

We made some truck drives to see our cool kids
And called them vacations 'cause relax we sure did.
That trip out west we must put on hold-
Those grapes can wait while our bank account grows.

We saw waterfalls full-drenched from long rains
Near Superior Wisconsin some 5 hours away.
We checked out fun places in our favorite Door
And brought more stuff home then we did years before.

Like one metal rooster for setting outdoors
On a berm with wegalias and bayberry shrubs,
In front of our porch with the farmer’s milk can.
You see the plants green and the farm stuff all tan.

The wet summer grew way too many mosquitoes.
Was tough to weed garden and tend to our flowers.
Those storms grew the lawn like never before-
Bought a sharpened new blade for my walking lawnmower.

My creek runs through yard without much for worry
And the grass keeps growing unaware of the season.
But garden has found that its end is quite near
And our flowers now know there’s short time left for pleas'n.

That was our summer for what it’s all worth,
Under Midwestern skies- where heaven meets earth.
